In my artistic practice, I understand radio as a hybrid medium that brings together different disciplines and forms of knowledge while also functioning as an art form in its own right.
I work between sound art, documentary research, electronic composition and radiophonic forms.
In Septmeber 2026, I will travel by land from Cologne to Istanbul, passing through:
The return journey will continue via before returning to Cologne.
Along the route, I am looking for radio stations, broadcasters, sound artists, musicians and independent media initiatives interested in an artistic and research-based exchange.
RESEARCH QUESTION
I am interested in the notion of resistance, not only as explicit political opposition, but in the social functions and possibilities of radio. Its ability to create alternative forms of listening and public space, connect voices across distance, preserve forms of knowledge, and bring different people and practices into relation.
THE PROJECT
During my residency in Istanbul, I will develop a three-part broadcast series under the title radio.hypha. The series will bring together voices, sounds and encounters gathered along the journey.
Rather than documenting the journey in a conventional way, I want to compose a shifting radiophonic landscape from

- field recording and sound research
- a collaborative radio piece or experimental music session
- an exchange of archival material
- a live or pre-recorded broadcast
- a contribution to the radio.hypha series
The exact format is deliberately open. I would like to develop each collaboration together with the respective platform, responding to its specific history, context and interests.
radio.hypha is conceived less as a finished project to be presented at different locations than as a network and production process shaped by the people and radio platforms involved.

Farah Wind is a Cologne-based sound artist working between experimental music, documentary research, electronic composition and radio. She studied art history and literary studies before undertaking a diploma in the Sound Department of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne. Doing a semester abroad, she studied digital & site-specific art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Her works combine documentary research with electronic processes and are developed for exhibitions, radio and performance. Her work has been presented at Triennale II – The Sound, WELTKUNSTZIMMER, ACHT BRÜCKEN, Temporary Gallery, Palaco Richi in Montepulciano, fm674, Turku Arts Academy & Conservatory, Kölner Kongress of Deutschlandfunk among others. She also works in the radioplay studios of Westdeutscher Rundfunk and as a soundart curator.
